A colorful Japandi interior in a characterful home
Here’s a slightly more polished, blog-ready version with smoother flow and tone:
Step inside a historic home dating back to before 1899, where a colorful “sad beige” palette meets Japandi aesthetics. Discover how the modular Moa sofa by By SIDDE takes center stage, forming the heart of the living room.
A house with history
Some homes tell a story from the moment you step inside and this one is no exception. Once used as a police station, the current living room even served as a former cell block. Still, Lisanne and her partner saw nothing but potential. Built before 1899, the house has exactly the character they were looking for, with high ceilings, authentic details and a truly unique layout.
“During the viewing, we did not see older rooms, but above all a lot of potential.”
Colorfull sad beige
Lisanne’s interior style is best described as a colorful sad beige aesthetic with Japandi and eclectic influences. A calm base of warm neutral tones forms the foundation, layered with wallpaper, paint colors, and accessories to create a personal and cohesive whole.

Three different wall colors combined with wallpaper create depth and atmosphere in the living room. One of her favorite pieces is a small cabinet she made herself in the corner of the room. The authentic knobs come from her parents in laws and give the piece a personal story.
“A home only becomes truly special when it contains personal stories.”
The sofa as the centerpiece
As in many living rooms, the sofa is the heart of the seating area here as well. For Lisanne, this is her favorite spot in the house, especially in the evening when everything quiets down and the living room transforms into a comfortable lounge space.
She discovered By SIDDE through Instagram. The algorithm showed her the Moa sofa, which immediately caught her interest. After requesting fabric samples and visiting the showroom in Heerenveen, the decision was quickly made.
The Moa sofa in Sesame Beige fits perfectly with her interior style. The lounge configuration creates a spacious seating area, while the warm beige fabric complements the calm Japandi base beautifully. It is practical too, with an easy care fabric that is ideal for a well lived in home.
The sofa is truly our place to unwind at the end of the day.”
