Het warme Scandinavische interieur van Irene

Irene's warm Scandinavian interior design

A peek into the stylish home of interior stylist Irene. The face behind Noord en zoet interieuradvies lives in Almere with her husband and two daughters. Her Scandinavian living style is a unique mix of a quiet base, personal items, vintage finds and a big dose of daring.

A house full of changes

For 23 years, the family has lived in this house that's built in 1995. Over the years, they have made several changes, including the modern kitchen renovation, new flooring and an additional garden room as an extension of the living room. Irene shared her passion for interior styling on Instagram and quickly attracted many followers. In 2019, she decided to turn her love for interior consulting into her job as an interior stylist.

“I never get tired of interiors; I've made my passion my job.”

Scandinavian basics with a personal touch

The name North and Sweet reflects Irene's style: 'North' stands for Scandinavian living style with lots of natural materials. While 'Sweet' adds the personal details, such as colorful accents and atmospheric decoration. She follows the latest interior design trends and incorporates them in her own way. She finds inspiration everywhere: in magazines, hotels, restaurants, movies and interior design fairs.

“I like warm colors in a quiet base, but with a little spice.”

Favorite place in the house: the sofa as an eye-catcher

A modular element sofa had been on her wish list for a while. When Irene discovered model Vita from By SIDDE, she was immediately sold. In the showroom in Eerbeek the choice was quickly made: Vita in the warm color Squash Cider. This color brings contrast to the interior and forms a harmonious whole with the rest of the furnishings. Her favorite spot in the house? In the corner of the sofa with a plaid, a magazine or a good series.

Old items with a story

Sustainable living for Irene also means reusing heirlooms. Her favorite items in the house are a vintage radio and retro lamp. The radio, which once belonged to her husband's grandfather, has a special place in the living room. Every year on New Year's Eve, it goes on while her husband bakes dough—a regular ritual. The cabinet, a find from the junkyard, she refurbished herself, and the radio fits perfectly in it. Upcycling and reuse play an important role in her interior design.

Smart styling tips for atmospheric interiors

Irene likes to share her interior styling tips for decorating a home attractively and practically:

  • Play with the light: Look carefully at where daylight comes from and let it flow freely through your home. This creates a spatial effect and a natural look.
  • Create depth: Don't place your sofa tightly against the wall, but in the middle of the room for a playful and airy effect
  • Use a color chart: Irene always has her color palette with her. This way she can immediately see which shades combine nicely and which color accents give the room character.
